Contribution to the Office of the Ombudsman

The Office of the Ombudsman for the Postal Sector is financed by means of a contribution paid by the postal providers meeting the following conditions cumulatively:

  • during the preceding year a turnover was made of at least 500,000 euro;
  • during the preceding year the Office of the Ombudsman for the Postal Sector treated more than 12 admissible complaints regarding the provider.

One month before the expiry date at the latest BIPT communicates the contribution due to the companies subject to the contribution.

The contributions shall be paid at the latest by 30 September of the year for which they are due.

Contributions that are not fulfilled by the date laid down, by law and without notice of default, give rise to interests at the legal tariff, increased by 2 per cent, calculated in proportion to the number of calendar days of arrears.

If the Office of the Ombudsman has spent less or more than was budgeted and / or if an individual contributor subject to the contribution to the Office of the Ombudsman remained in default partially or completely as for the payment of the contribution, a settlement will take place the year following the operational year of the Office of the Ombudsman. If said calculation gives way to an additional contribution or a partial refund, the difference is settled with the new individual contributions to be paid.
